Days of September

september"September days are here, with summer's best weather and autumn's best cheer."
Helen Hunt Jackson, from the  poem "September"

Stokes Aster
September means seven, in the Roman calender September was the seventh month of ten.  September is a month of cooler weather, prettier roses than summer, the garden seems to come alive.  A new breathe and energy before death or going dormant.

And the month my son's lovely, sweet and very smart daughter was born.  On September 20, 1986 Lauren Murphy McCarty gave the world another reason to smile.
Lauren and Mother
When Laure was eight years old, Frank my son, brought the three children to my house for a week.  We made cookies we could eat, cookies of salt and flour to bake and paint,we had a good time.  Lauren wanted to learn to sew.  The first thing I had her do was to learn to control the machine.  If you can not sew a straight line, you will never learn to sew.  The best way to do this is to sew on a strip scrap.

Lauren and Larry

If your daughter or granddaughter wants to learn to sew, show her how.  Most sewing machine can not be harmed by them.  Lauren would get a little impatient and want to skip this part, but I would not let her.  When she could sew a straight line we cut out a paper pattern and she made an apron.  She did an excellent  job on that first apron.  Carolyn, her mother, said  Lauren wore it around the house a lot ,and showed it to every one.  I don't think Lauren followed up on the sewing she got too busy.  When Lauren was in high school she met the love of her life, Larry McCarty.

Fabric  Lauren practiced on

Lauren and Larry finished their studies at Northeast University of Louisiana in Monroe before they married and moved to Jackson Mississippi.  In Jackson they went to Law School at Mississippi College School of Law.  It is hard to believe the little girl that help bake and paint cookies and I helped her to sew up and apron is all grown up and a Lawyer and is now practising Law in Jackson.

American Beauty
September rain has cleaned the  flowers and the air and has cooled the summers heat.  The roses have taken on a new beauty that the hot days of summer had drained away.  Roses of September are blooms to remember.
September is the time to set up for next year's garden. We have started our path for the "Garden Room" we have  planned.  We  started to pour the concrete for the path and the place for the bench.  Don't forget October is the time to plant perenials for the next year, gather seeds to share with friends.  I am sending some out to friends on face book.  So September is the time to plan your garden and go out to you local nurseries and get on line to see what is best for you area.  Be sure that what you buy will be right for the heat as well as cold and the water supply.  Plan to include in your budget some way to water your beds.  We have found that soaker hoses meet our needs.  Hope you have enjoyed this blog page and that you will continue to follow and watch my garden grow and will grow one of your own.  Happy gardening to you from me.  Juanita

Jeremy Evans Happy Birthday

Jeremy is the fourth child of my daughter Lenora.  He has always been a quite young man.  He played football all during high school, I did go watch one game.  I do not care for football, it is too rough for me.  But I wanted to watch him on the field one time.  Like all the other Evans and Murphy men Jeremy likes to fish and hunt.  Looks like he can get stuck and whomever came to get him out got stuck also.  When I see Jeremy I will have to ask him about this.  This happened to your Grandpa Frank quite often.

Looks like he needs to rest before he takes a girl out.  She seems to be having a good time. Wake up Jeremy and smell the roses.  Or maybe you need to slow down so you can stay awake on you date, and smell the roses.
I was looking for pictures of Jeremy for this page and I found this one.  It  has been a while since I have seen Jeremy and when I found this, I called Carrel and told him to come see one of Lenora's good looking kids. Of course being a man he says a good looking girl too.  I just hope she is still his girl friend  tonight.  When I wrote David's birthday page he told me he had broken up with her that day.  Open mouth insert foot.

I always try and tell some personal story about each person I write a blog page about.  Well, I was at Lenora's  and it fell to me to drive Jeremy to school one morning. I think he was in the tenth grade.  He got in the car and I looked at his pants, there was a big torn place in them, at the knee.  I said Jeremy Grandma would have patched you pants for you.  He smiled his cute shy smile and said he bought them like that.  I thought Lenora was having a hard time and he had to go to Goodwill for his jeans.  But no he paid  seventy dollars for that pair of pants.  If I had had false teeth at that time I know I would have dropped them.  Well you know I wonder how he would turn out anyone who would buy holy jeans.  But it was the same old story my kids told me "Everybodyelse" is wearing them.  I should have known.  My kids always told me the same thing, I had to remind them what their names were.  Then I remembered several years before the jeans makers were giving five dollars for trading in your old jeans.  They sure know how to make a buck.   And you know we can't be different, we got to be like "Everybodyelse."  Sad, isn't it.  Jeremy knows how to sweep a floor.  Make some lucky girl a good man one day.  Happy Birthday Jeremy love you.  If you are wondering where I got all these pictures, I stole them from you Face book album.   Hope you have enjoyed this blog page and you will continue to watch my garden grow, and grow one of your own.  Happy gardening to you from me .  Juanita

The Devout Man of God

Devote yourself to prayer, being watchful and thankful.Col 4:2

Ken and Debbie Evans
Ken Evans is one of the most devoted man to God that I know.  If you are a man of God you will devote yourself to you family.  This he has done.  God comes first in Ken's  life, then his Queen, Debbie, his wife and my daughter.  I will never forget she came home from church and told me " I have met the man I am going to marry Ken Evans."  I ask her did he know it ,no but he will.  I think it was the same for Ken.  He was our new Choir Director.  He also took the youth on short trips and planned  banquets for them, asked his friends and brothers to come as dates for different girls in the church.  Ken never got one for Debbie and he never had a date.  She felt like this told her something, I think it did  also.  He became very dear to our family, he even came out and milked the cow for me.  Over the years Ken has helped me out many times, I am not the only one.  There is no way to know how many people this young man has helped and brought to God.  I am very thankful  for my son-in-law.  I fell in 2003 and broke my hip at first I was OK money wise but I think he knew some hard times was coming, and they did.  My car was in the parking lot at the hospital, my son drove me home and Ken followed us to take Frank back.  They went to the grocery store for me, I gave the money to Ken , but he paid for them and gave me back my money.  Debbie and Ken came back several times, because I could not drive, they would buy the things I needed and would never take my money.  When all the Workman's compensation ran out, I found out how hard it could be on me.  Ken seem to know when I was low on money.  Once Ben his son came by with a card from Ken and Debbie there was 200.00 dollars in it.  There were times I barely had food, he brought a box of sweet potatoes, I ate them everyday.  Every time he came I always found money in my Girls Night Out Jar after he left.  It might not be but 15.00 or 20.00 dollars, but it was needed.  This is my way to tell him what a wonderful man and son-in-law he is Happy Birthday Today Ken Evans.  A true man of God.  Hope you enjoy reading this blog page and you will continue to watch my garden grow, and you will grow one of you own.  Happy gardening to you from me.  Juanita
